Amy Grant – Heart In Motion (1991, Myrrh)

Nata in Georgia nel 1960, cresciuta a Nashville, Amy Lee Grant è presente sulla scena dal 1977 e il suo nome è di quelli che ormai appartengono alla storia della musica gospel. Con una ventina di dischi all’attivo, collaborazioni con Michael W. Smith, Art Garfunkel e mariti-colleghi illustri (Gary Chapman, Vince Gill) e da anni considerata un’icona della C.C.M. Escluso il grosso exploit internazionale nel 1986, quando insieme a Peter Cetera incise The Next Time I Fall di Bobby Caldwell, questo Heart In Motion - anche se miscelato a liriche spirituali e religiose - è il primo lavoro prettamente pop dell’artista e quello commercialmente più fortunato. Esso riuscì a vendere infatti ben cinque milioni di copie ed considerato tutt’oggi l’album di C.C.M. più venduto di sempre. All’inizio però la svolta pop non fu presa bene dai fan, i quali non accettavano concessioni di sorta, ma dopo aver raggiunto i top ten delle classifiche adult contemporary di Billboard, l’album entrò in quelle di christian music raggiungendo il primo posto e restandoci per 32 settimane. Nel dettaglio i brani sono molto interessanti, forse in alcuni momenti risentono troppo di certe atmosfere elettroniche tipiche del periodo risentono negli arrangiamenti, ma sono tutti corredati da bellissime melodie e vocalità suadente. La produzione vede impegnati tre specialisti del genere (Michael Omartian, Brown Bannister, Keith Thomas) e ben cinque i singoli estratti a cominciare da Baby Baby (dedicata alla figlia Millie) e That's What Love Is For entrambi numero uno delle pop charts, quindi Good For Me (8°), Every Heartbeat (2°) ed infine I Will Remember You (20°). Spiccano infine la bellissima You’re Not Alone firmato dal duo Clime/Fisher con assolo killer del chitarrista Dan Huff e la sognante ballata How Can We See That Far, mentre tra gli episodi più liricamente religiosi si fa notare la toccante Ask Me che racconta di come la fede possa aiutare la donna a superare il trauma degli abusi sessuali. L’album ricevete la nomination come album dell’anno nel 1992, due il singolo Baby Baby e la Grant replicò con la fortunata miscela pop-christian music nel 1994 con l’altro disco multi-platino intitolato House of Love.
